Parent Orientation

Global Leaders Initiative is hosting a parent orientation at CICS Longwood to introduce families to our learning space and to review important back-to-school logistics and school expectations. 

 


 

Important Back-to-School Information


Please review the information below, so you can be prepared to discuss and ask questions during parent orientation. 

School Start Date

  • The first day of school is August 28th.

School Hours

  • School Start Time: 8:00 am

  • School End Time: 3:00 pm (1:00 pm on Wednesdays)

  • School will dismiss at 1:00 pm on the first three days of school, August 28-30.

 

Arrival

  • Parents should drop off students at door 8 of the CICS Longwood campus building, which is located on Throop Street. Students who arrive after 8:10 am should enter through the Longwood main entrance located on 95th Street.

  • CICS Global Leaders Initiative will open its doors to start receiving students at 7:30 am.

 

Breakfast

  • Breakfast will be made available to students starting at 7:30 am.

  • When students arrive at door 8, they will be offered a breakfast bag to be eaten in their classroom. 

 

Dismissal

  • CICS Global Leaders Initiative dismisses at 3:00 pm (1:00 pm on Wednesdays).

  • Parents should pick up students at door 8 of the CICS Longwood campus building, which is located on Throop Street.

  • A CICS Global Leaders Initiative teacher will be posted at the door 8 entrance. Parents must make visual contact with dismissal teacher or send text to notify of arrival. 

  • Parents who allow their students to take public transportation must sign a dismissal permission slip in order for their student to be released independently. Students are expected to walk to their bus stop immediately following dismissal.

 

Transportation

  • Students who live in Altgeld Gardens may take the CPS sponsored school bus that is designated to transport students from Altgeld Gardens to CICS Longwood.

    • Before School Bus Pick Up Location & Times 

      • CICS Lloyd Bond (gymnasium)

      • Bus arrives: 6:55 am

      • Bus departs: 7:10 am

      • Students should arrive 5-10 minutes before departure.

    • After School Bus Pick Up Location & Times

      • CICS Longwood (door 2): Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday - 3:30 pm

        • The bus should arrive at CICS Lloyd Bond between 3:55 pm - 4:00 pm.

      • CICS Longwood (door 2): Wednesday - 1:10 pm

        • The bus should arrive at CICS Lloyd Bond between 1:35 pm - 1:40 pm.

    • Bus Chaperones

      • The bus will be chaperoned by a CICS Global Leaders Initiative  staff person.

    • Additional Notes

      • The bus will transport CICS Longwood (grades 6-12) and CICS Global Leaders Initiative students.

 

School Supplies

  • Spiral notebook, 200 sheets

  • 3 two pocket folders

  • Mechanical pencils

  • Blue or black pens

  • Highlighters

  • Calculator - TI30X or non-graphing

 

Dress Code

  • Students must wear:

    • Bottoms

    • Tops

    • Shoes (must have backs or secure straps on back of shoe) 

    • Clothing that covers genitals, buttocks, and areolae/nipples

  • Students may wear:

    • Hats, including religious or cultural headwear

    • Hoodie sweatshirts

    • Sweatpants, pants, jeans (no large rips above the knee)

    • Shorts, skirts, and dresses (no higher than four inches above the knee) 

    • Athletic attire

    • Clothing with commercial or athletic logos provided they do not violate the guidelines in the “Cannot Wear” section

  • Students cannot wear:

    • Violent language or images

    • Images or language depicting drugs, alcohol, gang affiliation (or any illegal item or activity) 

    • Hate speech, profanity, pornography

    • Images and/or language that create a hostile or intimidating environment 

    • Visible underwear or bathing suits of similar design 

    • Midriff-baring shirts

    • Tank tops, including spaghetti straps, halter tops and “tube” (strapless) tops

    • Pajamas
